The released character process has nine steps. The game can walk through them, generate a legal crew, or load the optional authored ready crew. None is privileged as the setting's one party.
1. Generate Ability Scores
Choose an allowed method from the Player's Book, then record Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. See compendium/ability/index.
2. Choose a Lifepath Origin
A compendium/lifepath/index establishes birthplace, social context, starting debt or rek, skills, and hooks. It answers where the character came from.
3. Choose a Species, Lineage, or Synthetic Frame
The verse supports baseline and engineered human lineages, genuine xenosapient species, and compendium/synthetic/index. These choices use the same character rules but carry different traits and social consequences. The catalogue's folder name race is a compatibility label, not setting terminology.
Knowledge of xenosapient species is local. A species being playable does not make it universally recognised by every NPC.
4. Choose a Class
A compendium/class/index establishes Hit Die, Base Attack Bonus progression, saves, class skills, armour and weapon allowances, and signature features. Classes are roles, not mandatory employers: a Soldier may have served the Legion, a House navy, a PMC, a militia, a clan, or a free crew.
5. Assign Skills
Spend the class's skill points, respecting class-skill costs and rank caps. See compendium/skill/index.
6. Choose Feats
Choose legal compendium/feat/index and meet their prerequisites. Feats broaden or specialise what the character can do.
7. Buy Starting Gear
Spend starting rek on compendium/item/index. Keep legality, Kadiss requirements, ammunition, shield charge, and augmentation capacity in view.
8. Derive Combat Values and Kadiss Tier
Calculate Armour Class, hit points, saves, attack bonuses, initiative, and the access granted or denied by the character's Kadiss standing.
9. Finish the Person
Name the character, describe them, connect their lifepath and profession to the campaign, and give them a reason to work with the crew. A compendium/profession/index is previous work; it is not the same thing as a lifepath or class.
