Notes

Benefit: Implanted directional microphone array. +3 to Perception checks involving hearing, pinpoint the direction and rough distance of any sound within 60 ft, eavesdrop through one thin wall or bulkhead, and filter one voice out of background noise. Moderate benefit level.

Install Risk: Medicine DC 16 to map the array to the auditory cortex. Recipient makes a Fortitude save DC 14 or gains Botched Implant: phase error, -1 to directional Perception until a Medicine DC 15 recalibration. Failure by 5+ deadens one band for 1d4 days (-2 hearing).

Signature: Tracked. Registered as a civilian auditory implant on the Kadiss grid. Common among investigators, interpreters, and lookouts; uncontested in the Inner worlds.

Strain: The array is electronic; on EMP or ion exposure, Fortitude DC 13 or hearing drops to baseline (lose bonus and filtering) for 1d4 rounds. The focused beam narrows ambient awareness, -1 to Perception for sounds behind the wearer.
