Notes

Benefit: Single bionic lung with adaptive oxygen extraction membranes. +2 to Fortitude saves vs inhaled toxins and respiratory hazards. Can operate in thin atmosphere (down to 5% oxygen) without penalty. Provides +1 to Constitution for endurance checks when paired with a natural lung -- the bionic side compensates for the biological lung's limits. Reduces fatigue from exertion by 10%. Grants advantage on saves vs gas-based attacks and suffocation. A single-lung option for those who cannot afford or tolerate the full dual-lung replacement.

Install Risk: Medicine DC 15 for unilateral thoracic surgery. Recipient makes a Fortitude save DC 13 or suffers pulmonary asymmetry (-1 CON for 1d4 hours while the remaining natural lung adjusts to the new breathing dynamic).

Origin: An unnamed Inner Family developed the single bionic lung as a more accessible option for Legion regulars who could not qualify for the full dual system. The single-lung version became popular among Rim mercenaries and deep-space prospectors who needed environmental resilience without the full surgery risk or rek price. Commonly installed alongside a prosthetic or natural second lung.

Signature: Restricted. Military-grade augmentation, Kadiss-tracked. Often the highest-tier augmentation a Rim mercenary can reliably obtain.

Strain: Moderate. Requires bi-monthly membrane maintenance -- less frequent than the dual system since one lung remains biological. The asymmetric breathing pattern causes occasional respiratory arrhythmia (no mechanical penalty, but uncomfortable). Performance is notably inferior to the dual system in extreme environments.
