Notes
Benefit: Subcutaneous receiver-transmitter wired to the auditory nerve and speech centres. You may send and receive short text-and-voice messages on a closed Kadiss frequency as a free action each round, you hear incoming messages without an earpiece, and you gain +2 to read lips (Spot a speaker mouthing words you cannot hear) within 30 ft. Major benefit level. Voice and text messages are subject to grid logging on the Kadiss tier.
Install Risk: Medicine DC 15 for the auditory nerve splice. Recipient makes a Fortitude save DC 12 or gains Botched Implant: tinnitus, -2 to Perception checks involving hearing until a Medicine DC 13 correction. Failure by 5+ damages the speech nerve for 1d4 days at -2 to Bluff and Diplomacy.
Origin: Core Marines, Legion squad leaders, Families retainer-house couriers, and any professional whose day is shaped by message volume.
Signature: Tracked. Standard Legion-issue and corp-issue. Civilian versions log to the grid by default; ghost variants exist but are restricted contraband.
Strain: Constant low-level traffic. -1 to Perception checks in quiet environments (the wetware prioritises message traffic over ambient sound), and a Will DC 12 each long rest or take -1 to mental actions from message backlog until you triage. Grid towers can triangulate your commlink during a long conversation; a high-tier hostile with grid access gains +2 to track you for 1 hour after a 10-minute exchange.
