Notes

Benefit: Implanted neural regulator that modulates pain response. Grants +4 to Fortitude saves vs pain effects and reduces all pain penalties by 50%. Can operate at full effectiveness while wounded (ignore first -2 penalty from damage). Once per day, can trigger 'Pain Lock' for 1 minute: complete immunity to pain and fear effects, +2 to attack rolls and damage. After effect ends, suffer 1d4 CON damage from deferred pain processing.

Install Risk: Medicine DC 20 for neural integration. Recipient makes a Fortitude save DC 18 or suffers neural feedback (-2 to all mental attributes for 1d4 hours). 5% chance of permanent pain insensitivity.

Origin: Developed under an Asset Realisation special-operations contract. Components later reached Day One cells, mercenary clinics, and assassins; Rim versions are often unstable and can cause permanent nerve damage.

Strain: High. Requires weekly neural recalibration and has a 3% annual chance of system failure. Prolonged use causes neural degradation (-1 to pain-related saves after 1 month). Deferred pain accumulates and must be processed during rest.
