Notes

Benefit: Mechanical digestion chamber that grinds and sterilizes food before the gut absorbs it. +2 to Fortitude saves against ingested poisons, spoilage, and food-borne sickness, and you can eat field rations, cold tinned food, or lightly spoiled meals without nausea. You extract about 25 percent more nutrition from what you eat, so rations last longer. Minor to moderate benefit level.

Install Risk: Medicine DC 14 to implant the chamber and rejoin the oesophagus and bowel. Recipient makes a Fortitude save DC 11 or gains Botched Implant: reflux and poor uptake, -1 to Fortitude vs ingested threats and slow healing until a Medicine DC 13 recalibration.

Origin: Troop-supply contractors and caravan outfitters, built so that garrison soldiers and long-haul crews could live on rations that would lay out a normal stomach.

Strain: The chamber must be flushed after eating anything caustic or it fouls and the bonus drops to +0, with bloating and cramps until cleaned. The carrier's appetite runs large; they eat more total volume even as they get more from it.
