Conscripted Navigator
Found young.
Flagged on the gene-screen or by a Kadiss anomaly in childhood. Pulled out of school, out of the Hive, off the colony. Sedated, augmented, and trained on a leash for the Fold -- one of the corpus the corporatocracy books as capital equipment. They navigate for the Cores, take the chemical leash, take the aug, take the Perils. They survive a tour or two before burning out, going rogue, or being declared spent. The leash is the Navigator order; the debt is the contract; the family is whatever the order gave them. They leave the chair by burn-out, by Desertion, or by being declared a liability. Most who leave do not last long outside.
Rules Reference
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Archetype Combinations / Academic | Good fit. Fold-knowledge is real scholarship. |
| Archetype Combinations / Chaplain | Awkward fit. The Fold makes believers of everyone, but not chaplains. |
| Archetype Combinations / Face | Awkward fit. The Navigator order trains no Face skills. |
| Archetype Combinations / Officer | Awkward fit. Navigator rank is technical, not command. |
| Archetype Combinations / Operative | Workable fit. Psionic recon is real, if narrowly licensed. |
| Archetype Combinations / Psion | Natural fit. The psion is born for the chair; the chair eats the psion. |
| Archetype Combinations / Sawbones | Bad fit. The order's healers are Numen retainers, not the Navigator. |
| Archetype Combinations / Scout | Workable fit. Fold-sense is the scout's third eye. |
| Archetype Combinations / Soldier | Bad fit. The chair eats the body. |
| Background Trait / Cause | Because the leash is what keeps the psion alive long enough to be used. |
| Background Trait / Name | Leashed Psion |
| Background Trait / Trigger | Passive; psionic bonus and one permanent structural drawback. |
| Birthplace | core-glitter-or-hive |

| Starting Kadiss Tier | 4 |
| Starting Rek | 800 |
| Verse Anchor | Conscripted Navigator |
Notes
Background Trait / Effect: +4 bonus to any psionic check performed to sense or read the Fold while the character carries a Navigator chemical leash (any standard dose lasts one day; untreated withdrawal imposes -2 to all mental checks and a -1 per day accruing penalty until treated). +2 bonus to Lore checks about Fold phenomena, fold mechanics, and Perils. The character's psionic signature is flagged in every Core psion registry; any attempt to use psionics inside Confed space without a current Navigator licence is treated as an unlicensed Fold-opening event and is met with Argus, Numen, or Legion response as the GM decides.
Social Hook: The Navigator has touched the Fold and survived long enough to be leashed again. They know what the nightmares look like from the inside and how the fold moves under a Core. They have a chemical leash, a licence chip, and a Fold signature that lights up every psion registry in known space. The order still owns them, even after the chair.
Starting Gear: Navigator licence chip (Confed-issued, one-time bearer; invalidates on leash lapse), Three doses of Navigator chemical leash (one day each; the character's life without them is bad), Sedative injector (one use; -4 to Perception and Will for one hour; emergency leash), Light Navigator's robe (House-marked, thermal-regulated), Datapad (Numen-secured, low-band only), Rek chip with starting balance of 800, Personal comm unit (Argus-capable, encrypted), A small binding-talisman (whatever the family or ward gave them before conscription; -1 Disadvantage to Intimidation by anyone who recognises the creed it carries)
