Aethari are a xenosapient species native to Aeth, a world bathed in the radiation of a dying star within a Fold-reactive nebula. They evolved under sustained Fold exposure, which shaped their neurology into a natural psionic organ: every Aethari is born a gene-psion, manifesting minor powers from infancy. Their eyes carry a faint violet luminescence that intensifies when using psionics. Aethari are not human and have no human ancestry; they are an Independently evolved sapient species whose biology happens to interface with the Fold in ways that parallel human gene-psionics, though the mechanism is entirely alien. Aethari society is governed by the Chorus, a council of elder psions who merge their consciousness to deliberate. Other species regard them with a mixture of awe and suspicion -- their powers are undeniable, but their otherworldly detachment and the faint wrongness of prolonged Fold exposure make them unsettling. The Confederation restricts Aethari from certain military psionic roles out of fear of uncontrolled Fold breach, a policy the Aethari resent but tolerate.
