A stable character is unconscious and helpless but is no longer slipping
toward death -- their wounds have clotted, the bleeding stopped, but they
have not yet come round. They can take no actions, lose all Dexterity and
shield bonuses to AC (helpless), and are unaware of their surroundings. This
is the complement to the dying state (Bleeding (Unconscious at 0 HP)): a dying character is
stabilized into this condition, and a character knocked out by non-lethal
damage, sleep gas, or a stunner also lands here without ever bleeding. Each
hour of rest there is a 10% chance, or a successful Medicine check (DC 15) by
an attendant, that the character regains consciousness at 1 hit point. Death
is still reached at -10 HP if further damage is taken while helpless.
