Fix broken tech in 1 min: DC -5; can use improvised parts; +4 to keep jury-rig running.
The character can make broken equipment work with whatever
is at hand. The character may perform an emergency repair
on a broken device (weapon, vehicle, aug, console) in 1
minute instead of the normal 1 hour. The Mechanics check
DC is reduced by 5. The repair uses improvised parts if
a proper kit is not available (only standard parts needed
for basic function). A jury-rigged device functions for
1d4 hours or until the next stress event (whichever comes
first); the character gains +4 to any subsequent check to
keep the device running.
Special: The 1d4 hour runtime starts when the jury-rig is completed. After that time, the device fails and cannot be re-jury-rigged for 24 hours. Stress events include combat damage, environmental extremes, or excessive use. A jury-rigged aug in particular is risky (the character takes 1d4 damage from feedback if the aug fails during use). The improvised parts requirement means the character needs only basic materials (wire, tape, salvageable components) for routine repair, but exotic devices may still require specific parts.
