Subdermal Weave

Engineered subdermal weave: a reinforcing mesh under the skin that turns blades and slows slugs.

A reinforcing weave of dense collagen and bio-polymer grown just under the skin, the body's own armour. It turns edge strikes that would open baseline flesh and dulls the bite of low-calibre slugs. It is not plate -- a real rifle round still goes through -- but it is enough that the bearer walks away from wounds that would floor baseline stock. The weave complicates surgery and fights cybernetic implantation, which Sawbones and Helix techs both curse by name.

Notes

Effect Text: +1 AC; reduce each instance of slashing or piercing damage taken by 1 (to a minimum of 1). -1 to Medicine/Surgery checks on the bearer; cybernetic-aug implantation difficulty +5%.

Lore Note: A Helix staple for security, military, and the licensed Thrax-adjacent lines. The Vatspire grows it in industrial batches, and the Long Lab tinkers with tighter weaves that the catalogue will not formally stock. The cost the gene-crafters acknowledge is the surgical one -- the weave resists the scalpel almost as well as it resists the blade, and a bearer who needs a cybernetic arm fitted pays for the weave twice, in time and in scarring.
