Helix Emergency Revival Kit

Emergency revival kit; defibrillator and adrenaline to restart a stopped heart.

The Revival Kit is the last resort: when the patient's heart has stopped and the brain is counting down to irreversible death, this is what the medic reaches for. The portable defibrillator delivers a controlled electrical shock to restart cardiac rhythm; the adrenaline auto-injector forces the heart to beat on its own; and the neural restart stimulant -- a cortical shock compound that Helix developed from its neurology research -- jolts the brain's autonomic centres back into operation. It works, more often than not, if applied within the first minute or two. After that, the odds drop fast. The kit allows three attempts on the same patient; each failure makes the next attempt harder, as the heart muscle weakens and the brain accumulates damage. After three failures, the patient is beyond this kit's reach. Even successful revival leaves the patient shaken and diminished: the body remembers that it died, and the tremors, nausea, and disorientation last for an hour. Legion medics call the Revival Kit 'the three-chance box.' On the Rim, it is 'the prayer.'

Notes

Capacity: portable defibrillator, three adrenaline auto-injectors, neural restart stimulant (cortical shock compound), airway management kit

Effect: Attempts to revive a patient who has entered cardiac arrest or 'dying' state within the last 3 rounds. DC 14 Medicine check to revive; on success, the patient is restored to 1 HP and conscious (but 'wounded'). On failure, the patient remains in cardiac arrest. Each attempt after the first on the same patient incurs a cumulative -2 penalty to the Medicine check (the heart can only take so much). Three uses maximum on the same patient; after the third failed attempt, the patient cannot be revived by this kit. Revived patients are 'shaken' for 1 hour (disadvantage on all rolls).
