The Nocturne Kinetic Veil is not equipment; it is couture. Commissioned by the glitter-world Families and built by their private artificers, the Veil is a personal barrier emitter concealed within a piece of jewellery, a brooch, a clasp, a signet ring, that projects an invisible kinetic absorption field around the wearer. The field is biometrically locked to the commissioning Family member and will not activate for anyone else. The soak is respectable for its size but the Veil is designed for social protection: the assassination attempt at the gala, the poisoned blade at the dinner table, not a corridor firefight. Wearing one is a statement: I am valuable enough to protect and wealthy enough to make it beautiful. Each Veil is a unique piece; commissioning one from a Family artificer requires an introduction, a patron, and a sum that would buy a Rim crew a ship.
