Legion M-8 Portable Mortar
Portable 60mm mortar; crew-served indirect fire weapon.
The M-8 is the Legion's portable 60mm mortar, a crew-served indirect fire weapon that lobss high-explosive shells in a high arc onto targets that direct-fire weapons cannot reach. The mortar's strength is its ability to engage defilade positions, entrenched infantry, and structures from behind friendly lines; the operator never needs line of sight to the target. The M-8 breaks down into three loads (tube, baseplate, bipod) for transport by a three-person team, and can be assembled and firing within minutes. The mortar accepts a range of ammunition -- HE, smoke, illumination, and guided rounds -- making it a flexible fire support asset. Legion doctrine places the M-8 at the squad level, giving small units organic indirect fire capability. The mortar is also popular with mercenary companies and Rim militias, though its ammunition logistics require dedicated supply.
