Rim-pattern Jury-Rig Plasma Pistol
Cobbled-together plasma sidearm; effective but dangerously unreliable, a Rim staple.
The Rim-pattern Jury-Rig Plasma Pistol is not a single weapon but a category: any plasma sidearm cobbled together from salvaged components by Rim gunsmiths and warlord armourers. No two are alike, but all share the same rough characteristics: effective at close range, prone to overheating, and carrying a non-trivial chance of catastrophic failure. The Rim's gunsmiths are ingenious with salvage, and their jury-rigged plasma weapons are surprisingly effective for their cost. The trade-off is reliability: a jury-rig might burn its wielder as readily as its target. On the Rim, where a charge cell costs less than a meal, that is a risk many are willing to take.
