Notes
Dangers: Gene-bleed carry: the Reservation's two unstable splice lines from last century are still in the local population; a child born with one of them is taken to Helix within the week, and the family is offered a re-screening they cannot refuse., Quiet Karn: a Karn black-clinic aug shop is operating inside the Reservation under the cover of a barbershop; augs installed here do not show on a Kadiss scan, and Helix knows, and Helix is not always unhappy about it.
Hooks: A Reservation spliced community has begun producing children with an unplanned gene-psion marker; Helix wants the line studied and contained, the community wants the children left alone, and the Legion has been called in to mediate, badly., A Reservation Thrax clan has started running unlicensed Ironball scrimmages on the continental flats; Helix does not object but the Confederation does, and the party has been hired by the clan to argue the difference in front of an Argus correspondent., A Spliced elder has died and left behind a gene-library that does not match Helix's records; the family is selling the library to the highest bidder and Helix wants the bid stopped quietly, and the highest bidder is on a Drift Logistics courier at the perimeter dock.
Lore: The Reservation is Helix Spire's deep-continent preserve: forty-one million spliced and aug-line humans, kept under Helix jurisdiction but allowed, in theory, to govern their own blocks. The Long Yards are the public face: a working farm economy built on top of Helix's research grids, where spliced communities have learned to read the company's monitoring equipment better than the company does. The Karn Quarter is the less public face: an unlicensed body-mod industry that has become the Reservation's export, and that ships augs to the Rim and back faster than Helix can list them. The Bone Choir, a cliff-side cemetery where spliced elders are buried with their augs intact, is the seam: Helix sends a quiet expedition every year to retrieve the augs and is quietly refused, and the refusal has become a kind of holiday the quarter keeps with bone-bells. Day One has a permanent chapel in the Quarter; Helix does not object, because the chapel's congregation is not the same congregation that would otherwise be on the long Yards.
Notable: The Long Yards: the Reservation's continental flats where spliced communities have built a working farm economy on top of Helix's research grids, and where the grids have started seeding the farms with the data Helix pretends not to want., The Karn Quarter: a district within the Reservation where unlicensed body-mod work has become the local industry; the quarter is its own economy, in its own currency, off Helix's books., The Bone Choir: a cliff-side cemetery where spliced elders are buried with their augs intact; Helix sends a quiet expedition every year to retrieve the augs and is quietly refused, and the refusal has become a kind of holiday.
