Notes
Dangers: The Fold is not the Fold; the Fold is not the Fold; whether the two are connected is an open and unfunded question., Sublight instruments experience clock-lag, not clock-stop; the readings still arrive, on a delay, after the Fold's own instruments have failed., There is no ruin of any kind at the Fold - only the Fold.
Hooks: Sublight traffic past the Fold reports instruments returning correct readings on a delay - clocks lag readings by 0.7 seconds., A core-capable ship that transited the Fold emerged from the other side and was, by its own log, transited eleven days ago - and is, by the universe's clock, transited now., No Akraan ruin has ever been recovered from the Fold - and no family of ruins anywhere matches the readings the Fold returns.
Lore: The Lantern Fold is a region of space, roughly spherical, on no Confederation chart. It is named for a single bright object observed at its centre, which does not move and which is not a star. The Fold does not register as Fold-bleed, does not register as Akraan, does not register as anything the Core sciences catalogue. Sublight instruments that pass within its boundary return their readings on a 0.7-second delay - the readings still arrive, but the readings are of the Fold's own depth, not of where the instrument now is. A Drift Logistics probe transited the Fold on a tight beam; it emerged from the other side and is, by its own log, transited eleven days ago. The universe says it is transited now. A Fold-jump executed inside the Fold returns to a system of the same name - a system that, by Kadiss, does not exist. The Fold is not the Fold; the Fold is not the Fold. Whether they are connected is an open and unfunded question. There are no Akraan ruins at the Fold. There is no ruin of any kind at the Fold. There is only the Fold.
Notable: The Fold is a region of space, roughly spherical, in which sublight instruments return readings on a 0.7-second delay - readings from the Fold's own depth, not the instrument's., The Drift probe DL-3 transited the Fold and emerged, by its own log, eleven days ago - and is, by the universe's clock, transited now., A Fold-jump executed inside the Fold does not return to the same system - it returns to a system of the same name, on a Kadiss-tagged beacon that no Core has logged.
