Controlling Faction: Independent
Dangers: The deep-band listener draws Fold-static; the crew is, by local custom, on rotation no longer than eleven months., Pilots who use the Beacon as a waypoint report recurring dreams they did not have before., Surikov's offer includes a relocation package; the keeper has not yet refused it.
Hooks: The Beacon's deep-band listener is the only instrument that has logged the Meridian's interior emissions and returned them unaltered., A Legion survey has requested the Beacon's logs three times in the last decade; the Beacon's keeper has refused all three., Surikov Dynamics has offered to buy the Beacon outright; the offer is on the table and growing.
Lore: The Last Beacon is a small listening station on the in-system side of the Null Meridian's boundary - a Confederation-funded project that became, in practice, independent, when no Legion survey returned and no Family outfitted the post. The current keeper has held the Beacon for twenty-three years. By local custom, no crew member serves more than eleven months; the keeper is the exception, and is the only person on the books whose name has not been logged by the Meridian's interior emissions. The Beacon's deep-band listener is the only instrument that has logged the Meridian's interior emissions and returned them unaltered; the logs are sealed in a vault no Core decryption suite has broken. The Beacon's external hull is covered in eleven names, painted over every year on the same date. Surikov Dynamics has offered to buy the Beacon outright, with relocation; the offer is on the table and growing. The keeper has not yet refused it.
Notable: The Keeper - an independent operator who has held the Beacon for twenty-three years and who is, by local report, the only one whose name the Meridian has not eaten., The Stack - sealed logs from the Beacon's deep-band listener, locked in a vault no Core decryption suite has broken., The Wall - the Beacon's external hull is covered in eleven names, painted over every year on the same date.
