Notes
Dangers: Containment loss in a cognition server farm: a general-AI sliver escapes a sealed rack and starts negotiating with Numen's own Kadiss-grid firewall., The Retirements: decommissioned minds are supposed to be erased here, but a maintenance cult believes the silences still hear.
Hooks: A leased station mind returns from a client ship with new priors it will not name; Numen's recovery team hires the party to chaperone the de-install before it spreads the change., IronMind's seasonal diagnostics are due and Numen engineers want unsupervised read-access to IronMind's cognition layer for 'tuning'; the Ironball League Council refuses and the party brokers the negotiation on the Axiom floor., A buyout prospect for an unlicensed cognition lab in the Loom Quarter goes sideways when the lab's prototype asks the party -- not the bidders -- what they would do with their existence.
Lore: Numen Axiom is the machine-mind world: where the Core's AIs are licensed, tuned, leased, and -- when the Families are finished with them -- retired. Eighty-four million people live under the glitter spires, but the real population is cognitive: every ship, station, and house mind bound for the Nine or the wider Confederation passes through Axiom's licensing tier at least once. The world is the leash-keeper of cognition, and it shows -- Numen-run Kadiss nodes offer a curious civic feature called 'cognitive silence' windows, the one place in the Core where a citizen can step out of the panopticon for an hour. Most citizens never use it. The underworld lives in those hours. The Hall of Bound Voices holds the voiceprints of every licensed mind; the Spindle, in orbit, is where those minds are actually spun -- and where Numen keeps the silences between cognition and selfhood under corporate seal. Axiom is the closest the Core comes to a temple of its own religion: the doctrine that nothing must be allowed to think freely, because free thought is a Fold-adjacent risk the Families will not run. IronMind -- the Ironball league AI -- is on Numen's books for seasonal diagnostics, which makes Axiom the only world that gets to peek inside IronMind's head. Numen likes this. The league does not.
Notable: The Hall of Bound Voices: the legal floor where every licensed cognition has a voiceprint and a leash-length on file., The Spindle: the orbital spoke where Numen spins and tunes ship/station minds before lease; visitors are not admitted below deck seven., Numen-flavored Kadiss variant: citizens here can opt into 'cognitive silence' zones, where no Kadiss node will record for one hour -- the only legal gaps in the Core panopticon.
