Notes
Dangers: Calibration bleed: a Core on the fitting floor that is opened to the Fold and not closed again starts to bleed within hours; the bleed is faint at first and absolutely not faint at the end, and the floor's last drill took six hours to contain., Navigator collapse: the Origin pool's psions are worked to Peril and beyond; the pool's corridors are designed so a collapsing psion can be sealed and dragged out without anyone watching, and the design is on Asset Realisation's books for a reason.
Hooks: A Fold-capable Family yacht has been waiting at Rekk Origin's fitting berths for eleven weeks while Asset Realisation's calibration teams refuse to sign off on its Core; the yacht's captain is convinced the Core is haunted and the calibration team is starting to agree., A Navigator candidate has been indentured to the Origin pool for a nine-year hitch and the party's friend has six months left; the indenture officer is asking for a favour to extend the hitch by one year, and the friend is asking the party to make sure he does not., A Prospector free-trader has drifted in from the Rim with a slab of material she claims is a pre-Exodus LaGrange Core fragment; Asset Realisation wants the slab quietly, the Confederation wants it catalogued, and the prospector wants both sides to bid openly.
Lore: Rekk Origin is the world where the LaGrange Cores are actually made. Helios forges the shells; Rekk Origin tunes what goes inside them. One billion nine hundred million people, almost all of them workers in the assembly arcologies or the Navigator pool, and the single densest concentration of trained psions in the Core. The Fitting Floor is a continent-sized clean room under orbital shadow, where Core shells are lowered from Helios ships and integrated with their Navigator cradles by Asset Realisation technicians who are not allowed to discuss the work outside the hall. The Pool next door holds the conscripted psions who will crew them: ten thousand on the leash at any given moment, worked until the Perils consume them, most of them not making it to the end of their indenture. The Quiet Mile is a maintenance corridor where Kadiss coverage is throttled so workers can sleep without the grid dreaming back. The world is Asset Realisation's confession: civilisation needs the Cores, and the Cores need psions, and psions are people, and people are assets, and the ledger is what keeps the Fold out.
Notable: The Fitting Floor: a continent-sized clean room where Core shells are lowered from orbit and integrated with their Navigator cradles; the floor's Kadiss coverage is the densest in the Core on purpose., The Pool: the Navigator conscription and indenture barracks; ten thousand psions on the leash at any given moment, most of them not making it to the end of their indenture., The Quiet Mile: a maintenance corridor inside the assembly hall where Kadiss coverage is throttled so that workers can sleep without the grid dreaming back.
