Notes
Biome: Jungle
Controlling Faction: Independent
Dangers: The downship's lower decks flood during the wet season; standing water and Fold incursion compound, and the corridors move when you are not watching., The Fold-touched crew do not attack, but they do insist you follow protocol; refusing them costs luck and morale., Silt quicksand around the forward hull will take a vehicle and a team without warning.
Hooks: Recover the ship's black box from the silt of the downship's main corridor before the next monsoon season scours it downstream., A Confed inquiry is sending an assessor; the camp at Velt wants the assessor's eye kept off the lower decks, where the Fold-touched crew still walk their posts., A Legion veteran's family is paying Rek to recover their relative's service pistol from the silt lockers, and the pistol's serial is on a war-crimes list.
Lore: Silt Monument is the downshipped Confed Legion corvette that the jungle took, half a rotation ago, when an entire company was meant to clear the lower Ghala and never came back up the river. The wreck is the cause and the effect of Ghala Bend's attrition war: the cause is that Confed tried to solve a slow river problem with a fast ship; the effect is that the river and the Fold bled through the ship's own navigation cradle and put the company's officers to walking their posts forever. The monument is now both a memorial and a caution; Velt Camp sends rotating maintenance crews to keep the wreck above water, the Legion refuses to formally decommission it, and the locals light candles on the prow when the river is low. Day One recruiters use the wreck in whispered village sermons as proof that the machine grinds even its soldiers. The Fold bleed here is high because the ship's unlicensed emergency fold (which brought it down) is still echoing in the silt, and the bend around the prow is statistically the most dangerous bend on the planet.
Notable: A Confed Legion corvette, fallen from low orbit and buried to its prow in river silt at a sharp bend of the Ghala. The bridge and upper decks are accessible at low water; the engineering decks are permanently flooded and silted. A small maintenance crew from Velt Camp keeps the wreck from being lost to the river.
