The Cog Arches

The Cog Arches are Trellis Vast's older arcology blocks: two hundred and eighty million residents, almost all of them Confederation clerks on the way down, indenture-awaiting on the way up, or Day One faithful who have stopped moving at all.

Notes

Dangers: Indenture flash-mob: a crowd of newly-realised assets gathered outside a Cog Arches indenture office; Kadiss sensors fail to map the crowd in real time because the indenture office is a documented Kadiss blind spot, and Asset Realisation has no plans to fix it., Quiet Karn: a back-alley Karn body-mod parlour that is not on the Confederation's books; their augs work, mostly, and the patients they lose are not always the ones they list as dead.

Hooks: A Cog Arches indenture hostel has been quietly converting its lower bunks into a Day One chapel; the Confederation does not want a riot, Asset Realisation does not want the precedent, and the hostel prefect just wants the heating fixed., A grey-market Kadiss tier-booster ring has been operating out of a Cog Arches barber shop; the boosters work for one standard week before quietly failing, and the customers are all Confederation clerks who can no longer afford to be seen at the Hall., A Legion Anvil veteran on terminal leave has been preaching in the Cog Arches market square; her sermons quote the Legion creed verbatim and end with 'Anvil included us too'; the Confederation would like her moved on, the Legion would like her quiet, and the crowd keeps growing.

Lore: The Cog Arches are Trellis Vast's older arcology blocks: two hundred and eighty million residents, almost all of them Confederation clerks on the way down, indenture-awaiting on the way up, or Day One faithful who have stopped moving at all. The district was the original Confederation bureaucracy; the Families hollowed it out, and the hollow is now an indenture hostel system with a chapel layer underneath. The Old Bureaux are the public face: the old corridor signs still hang above the new dormitory doors, and the building's original climate control has been patched so many times that the same corridor can be too hot and too cold on the same day. The Long Market is the largest single grey-market floor in the Core, every stall logged by an Argus correspondent in real time, which makes it the most surveilled market in the verse and therefore the safest place to do business on the books and the worst place to do business off them. The Bone Chapel is the seam: a Day One chapel built inside a decommissioned Confederation archive vault, the largest single organised Day One presence on any Core world. The Confederation does not close it down; Asset Realisation finds it, on balance, calming.

Notable: The Old Bureaux: the original Confederation bureaucracy buildings, now almost entirely converted to indenture hostels; the old corridor signs are still visible above the new dormitory doors., The Long Market: the Cog Arches' central open-air market, the largest single grey-market floor in the Core; every stall is logged by an Argus correspondent in real time., The Bone Chapel: a Day One chapel built inside a decommissioned Confederation archive vault; the chapel's congregation is the largest single organised Day One presence on any Core world.
