Day One Cell Leader

A veteran revolutionary who turned grief into doctrine and doctrine into a cell.

A Day One Cell Leader is the verse's most dangerous idealist: someone who survived the event that Day One is named for -- a corporate massacre, a forced relocation, an ark-arrival that killed their family -- and converted that survival into organised resistance. They are not street preachers or suicide cases; they are tacticians, recruiters, and logistics planners who run a cell of Martyrs with the discipline of a military unit and the conviction of a religion. The Confederation calls them terrorists. The Rim calls them the only people fighting back.

The Cell Leader is an elite encounter: harder, smarter, and more committed than the Martyrs they lead. They fight asymmetrically, avoid stand-up engagements, and will sacrifice the cell -- and themselves -- to make a point that the Confederation cannot erase.

Notes

Full Attack: Modified Carbine ranged +7 (1d8+1 ballistic; range 80 ft; suppressor-fitted) or Combat Knife melee +6 (1d4+1 slashing) or Improvised Explosive +6 (3d6 ballistic; 15-ft burst, DC 15 Reflex half; 1/encounter)

Habitat: Rim stations, under-hab warrens, frontier settlements, and anywhere the Confederation's grip has created grievances large enough to recruit from. Found in safe-houses, planning ambushes, or leading a cell of 3-6 Martyrs on an operation. Roll 1d6: 1-2 = Cell Leader in a safe-house, planning the next operation (covert, cautious), 3-4 = Cell Leader leading a cell ambush (coordinated, lethal), 5-6 = Cell Leader cornered after a failed operation (desperate, Ghost Protocol ready).

Morale: Fanatic (15); fights to the death to protect the cell and the cause; will sacrifice themselves to ensure the message survives

Resistances: Concealed armour (included in AC; scrounged mesh under civilian clothes), Comms implant (encrypted Day One network; blocks standard interception)

Senses: Normal human vision; augmented comms implant grants encrypted channel access and +4 to Notice for surveillance and tails; passive Perception 16

Tactics: The Cell Leader never fights fair. They open with Asymmetric Doctrine (ambush, first-strike bonus), direct the cell with Cell Network, and save the Improvised Explosive for the chokepoint or the cluster. They use Martyr's Gambit to break a hard point and Ghost Protocol to vanish when the operation fails. The Cell Leader fights to the mission's terms, not the fight's terms; if the mission requires dying, the Cell Leader dies, but they die with a plan.

Treasure: Modified carbine with suppressor (500 rek), combat knife (40 rek), concealed mesh armour (200 rek), comms implant (400 rek), Day One cipher-pad (priceless to the cause; 500 rek to Confederation intelligence), IED components (100 rek), safe-house key or location (intelligence value varies), 3d10 rek in untraceable coin, personal effects (a photograph, a name, a date -- the reason the Cell Leader fights).

Vulnerabilities: Ideological rigidity (the Cell Leader will not abandon a Martyr willingly; if a Martyr is captured the Cell Leader will attempt a rescue even against odds), Confederation priority (Day One Cell Leaders are high-priority targets; the Confederation will deploy disproportionate force to eliminate one, and the Cell Leader knows it)

Special Abilities

Cell Network

FieldValue
actionCostSwift (1/round)
nameCell Network

description: The Cell Leader issues orders to all Day One Martyrs within 60 ft who can hear them. Choose one: +2 to attack rolls (coordinated strike), +2 to Stealth checks (fade), or immediate withdrawal (Martyrs scatter on command). The Cell Leader can also spend a standard action to activate a pre-planned fallback: all allied Martyrs disengage and move toward a prepared exit at +10 ft speed. Player-visible: the Cell Leader speaks one word into the comms implant, and the cell moves as one.

Asymmetric Doctrine

FieldValue
actionCostpassive
nameAsymmetric Doctrine

description: The Cell Leader fights on terms that favour the cell. In the first round of any encounter the Cell Leader initiated (ambush, trap, planned engagement), all allied Day One NPCs gain +2 to initiative and +2 to the first attack roll. The Cell Leader also gains +4 to Tactics checks for positioning in environments they have prepared (safe-houses, ambush sites, urban terrain). Player-visible: the first shot comes from somewhere you were not watching, and the second comes from somewhere you just looked away from.

Martyr's Gambit

FieldValue
actionCostStandard (1/encounter)
nameMartyr's Gambit

description: The Cell Leader can designate one willing allied Martyr to make a sacrificial attack: the Martyr moves up to their full speed, provokes no attacks of opportunity, and makes a single attack at +4 to hit and +2d6 damage. After the attack the Martyr is reduced to 0 HP (unconscious, not dead unless the attack was a suicide explosive). Player-visible: the Cell Leader looks at the Martyr, the Martyr nods, and then the Martyr runs straight at the problem.

Ghost Protocol

FieldValue
actionCostImmediate (1/encounter)
nameGhost Protocol

description: When the Cell Leader's position is compromised or when reduced below 15 HP, the Cell Leader can activate Ghost Protocol: all comms go dark, the Cell Leader makes a Stealth check at +8, and vanishes from the encounter. The Cell Leader re-appears in 1d4 hours at a pre-planned safe-house with a new plan. Player-visible: the comms hiss, the static clears, and the Cell Leader is simply not there anymore.
