Teacher Wen

Head teacher of Tannhauser Reach, Human, sixty-two, and the settlement's conscience.

Head teacher, Human, sixty-two, and the conscience of the settlement in the sense that nobody else has volunteered for the job.

Wen runs the schoolhouse, which is the largest enclosed space in Tannhauser Reach and therefore the obvious place to put the wounded, the reserve, the militia muster or the civilians, depending on which member of the council has spoken most recently.

What Wen wants is the children evacuated before the assault, up the northern goat-path and through the caves to the open scrub. Evacuation takes four adults -- two to escort, two to carry supplies -- and two hours, and those four adults are then not on the barricade.

Wen has done that arithmetic and states it without being asked, which is the measure of the person: the argument is put honestly, cost included, and then made anyway.

Wen has taught in the Reach long enough to have taught most of the militia, and every argument in the council chamber goes differently when Wen is in the room, for reasons nobody says out loud.

actionCostpassive
nameThe Largest Enclosed Space

description: The schoolhouse is the only building in the Reach that can hold the militia, the wounded or the civilians, and it cannot hold two of those at once. Player-visible: every defence plan the party build has to spend the schoolhouse on exactly one thing, and Wen will say which one it should be.

description: Wen puts the price of the evacuation -- four adults off the barricade for two hours -- before making the case for it, every time, without being asked. Player-visible: no INSIGHT check is needed to find what Wen is concealing, because Wen is concealing nothing.

Taught The Militia

description: Most of the settlement's fighting-age adults sat in Wen's schoolhouse. Player-visible: a militia that will not hold for anybody else will hold for Wen, once, and Wen knows it and will not spend it lightly.
